Supervisor:
Department of Mechanics
Synopsis:

Experiments focused on monitoring of the amount of climatic loads on building and engineering structures (wind, snow, temperature loads), diagnostics of building and engineering structures, tests carried out on physical models of building and engineering structures (model similarity laws, seismic simulations on shake tables, wind tunnel simulations of wind effects, static load tests on physical models), monitoring of building and engineering structures, static load tests (building structures, engineering structures, bridges), dynamic load tests and experimental modal analysis (building structures, engineering structures, bridges, footbridges), effects of technical seismicity, evaluation of adverse effects of vibration on the human body, assessment of the influence of building vibrations on installed machines and devices).

Requirements:

They are not specified.

Syllabus of lectures:

1) Introduction, experiments focused on monitoring of the amount of climatic loads on building and engineering structures (wind, snow, temperature loads), diagnostics of building and engineering structures.

2) Tests carried out on physical models of building and engineering structures (model similarity laws, seismic simulations on shake tables, wind tunnel simulations of wind effects, static load tests on physical models).

3) Monitoring of building and engineering structures, static load tests - general principles.

4) Static load tests - general information, static load tests on building, industrial and engineering structures.

5) Static load tests on bridges, dynamic experiment - introduction, methods of evaluation and processing of measured data (peak value, peak to peak value, dynamic coefficient, root mean square value (RMS), vibration level, rain flow method, fast Fourier transformation (FFT).

6) Dynamic experiments focused on determining parameters of natural vibration (experimental modal analysis) - used dynamic loads, typical arrangement of the experiment, methods for evaluating results.

7) Dynamic experiments focused on determining the characteristics of forced vibration (dynamic load tests) - used dynamic loads, arrangement of the experiment, method for evaluating results, effects of technical seismicity, evaluation of adverse effects of vibration on the human body, assessment of the influence of building vibrations on installed machines and devices.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

The student will get acquainted theoretically and practically with the basic experiments carried out on engineering structures, with the basics of diagnostics in civil engineering, with experiments that are performed on whole building structures or on structural elements, with the basic procedures and principles of evaluating experimental results, with the basic regulations related to the experimental analysis of building structures and with the possibilities of using experiments in construction practice.
