Synopsis:

The course follows the basic education in the field of steel structures. It focuses on a design of some special construction types, includes parts: High-strength steel construction, Crane supporting structures, Silos and Rope structures.

Requirements:

Official prerequisities are not given. For the successful completion of the course basic general knowledge of statics, theoretical mechanics and design in accordance with limit states theory is necessary.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. High-strength steels - principles, properties, applications, design of steel elements, differences of the proposal.

2. Crane supporting structures - structural design, load calculation, check, details.

3. Silos - structural design, load calculation, membrane stress defects, details.

4. Silos - check of a slim shell.

5. Rope structures - theoretical background, structural design, production, calculation of stress, chesk.

6. Excursion to the building site.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Design and check of Crane supporting structure - geometry, loads.

2. Design and check of Crane supporting structure - check according to the theory of limit states.

3. Design and check of cylindrical steel silo - geometry, loads.

4. Design and check of cylindrical steel silo - check according to the theory of limit states.

5. Design and check of one-layer rope roof.

6. Design and check of two-layer rope roof.

Study Objective:

Achieving of a deep knowledge about systems and methods of special steel structures design (silo, crane supporting structure, rope), determination of loads and principles of static checks. The emphasis is kept on the practical exercise of static calculations.

2008: ČSN EN 1993-1-12 Eurokód 3: Navrhování ocelových konstrukcí - Část 1-12: Doplňující pravidla pro oceli vysoké pevnosti do třídy S700, ČNI.

2008: ČSN EN 1993-4-1 Eurokód 3: Navrhování ocelových konstrukcí - Část 4-1: Zásobníky, ČNI.

2008: ČSN EN 1993-6 Eurokód 3: Navrhování ocelových konstrukcí - Část 6: Jeřábové dráhy, ČNI.
