Synopsis:

Deepening of knowledge received from courses 133NNK and 134OK01. Amplifying of theoretical knowledge in the field of steel grade selection, toughness, global analysis of structures, buckling of structural systems, joint classification, and high strength steel and demanding composite steel and concrete structures. Complementation of knowledge from fire resistance of steel and composite structures and detailed design of industrial buildings and crane girders. Design of masts, towers, chimneys, tanks, silos and pipelines, technological structures, pre-stressed steel structures and basis of design from aluminium alloys and stainless steel, and cable and membrane structures.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree is required before this course.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction: Steel grade selection, toughness, high strength steel

2. Global analysis of structures, buckling of structural systems, buckling of tapered members in bending and compression

3. Connections: nominally pinned, semi-rigid and rigid connections, joint classification, connections made by pins

4. Fire resistance of steel and composite structures

5. Composite steel and concrete structures

6. Industrial halls with cranes: crane runway beams, bracing, detailing

7. Masts (electric power transmission lines), towers, chimneys

8. Silos, tanks and pipelines

9. Industrial and technological structures

10. Pre-stressed steel structures

11. Cable and membrane structures

12. Aluminium alloy and stainless steel structures

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Steel frame - design of the column and frame cross beam, including initial imperfections and influence of second order.

2. Column - beam joint: design of the bolted connection with end plate.

3. Design of continuous steel and concrete composite floor beam.

4. Design of the composite steel and concrete column - tube filled by concrete

5. Design of crane girder

Study Objective:

Acquirement of deep abilities in the field of design of steel building structures.
