Department of Construction Technology
Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to introduce students to developments in the rapidly developing field of robotic technologies in construction and to understand the specifics and potential of robotics throughout the construction life cycle. Teaching the course fits into the newly formed government strategy Construction 4.0, preparing the Czech construction industry for the comprehensive digitalization of the industry. The lectures will cover technologies such as 3D printing, CNC, autonomous driving, drones, wearables or tools using augmented reality as the basis of the newly created concept of Construction 4.0.

The exercise will include tasks to create a virtual model from a point cloud in preparation for 3D printing and a conceptual design of a robotic construction technology as a conceptual assignment for a multidisciplinary team of developers.

Requirements:

Submission of work by the prescribed deadline and to the prescribed extent (see Teams).

Compulsory attendance in class, maximum 2 unexcused absences.

Regular consultation and checking of work during the course.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Robotics - basics, development, theory, trends.

2. Specifics of construction production and possibilities of its robotization.

3. RoD - specifics of designing for robotic production.

4. Specialized construction robots - STCR.

5. Technologies of digital fabrication in construction industry.

6. Virtual, augmented and mixed reality, drones, RFID, wearables, exoskeletons.

7. Construction Site 4.0.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. 3D printing by FFF method. Model preparation and export to GCode.

2. Robotics of construction processes - specifics and design principles.

3. Fundamentals of 3D printing using the cement mortar extrusion method. Preparation of models and export to GCode.

4. Basics of 3D printing using the cement mortar extrusion method.

5. Basics of industrial robot control - working with KUKA KRC 10 robot.

6. Virtual reality and 3D scanning.

Study Objective:

The aim of the study is to get acquainted with the basic specifics of selected robotic and digital technologies in industry and construction. On their basis, to learn the procedures for designing their own technology, i.e. to create a concept, specification of individual parts. It also includes the method of quality control and requirements for output products.
