Synopsis:

The course is focused on theoretical and practical methods of creating mathematical models of anthropomorphic phantoms for the needs of modeling of doses in medical applications and radiation protection.

Requirements:

Additional requirements:

Prerequisites are basic knowledge of radiation physics, radiation interaction and radiation transport modeling. The advantage is knowledge of programming and working in Unix.

Syllabus of lectures:

Basic themes:

1) Principles and methods of dose simulation in medical applications and radiation protection

2) Development of phantoms in radiatiopn protection, development of anthropomorphic phantoms

3) Geometric phantoms, types and methods of description, advantages/disadvantages, areas of use

4) Voxel phantoms, methods of construction from 3D diagnostic data, BREP and 4D phantoms

5) Implementation of mathematical phantoms into model calculations

6) Program tools for the construction of anthropomorphic phantoms

7) Demonstrations and practical exercises (continuously, teaching is done in a computer lab)

Theoretical and practical mastering of basic methods of construction and use of mathematical models of anthropomorphic phantoms for modeling and calculations of organ or therapeutic doses in medical applications and radiation protection.
