Synopsis:

Basic sources of energy, power engineering development, hydropower potential of river, basic schemes of hydropower stations, types of hydropower plants, peak and pump storage calculations, intake structures, derivative canals, hydraulic tunnels, pressure pipes, surge chambers, water hammer and theory, type of turbines and their theory, electric part, powerhouse

Requirements:

Basic knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology, good knowledge of physics at secondary school level

Syllabus of lectures:

Basic sources of energy, power engineering development, hydropower potential of river, basic schemes of hydropower stations, types of hydropower plants, peak and pump storage calculations, intake structures, derivative canals, hydraulic tunnels, pressure pipes, surge chambers, water hammer and theory, type of turbines and their theory, electric part, powerhouse

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Hydroenergetic solution of pump storage power plant

2. Hydroenergetic solution of run-off river plant

3. Oscillations of water level in surge chambre during start-up and shutdown of power plant

4. Basic parameters of Pelton turbine

5. Recalculation of prototype parametres using unit model characteristics

Study Objective:

Students will obtain view about individual types of hydroelectric power stations and they will be informed about methods of hydraulic power utilization.
