Synopsis:

General principles of design work in investment activities in the energy sector are discussed in this course. Attention is focused on mastering the methodology for evaluating the economic efficiency of investment projects and economic optimization of technical solutions.

Requirements:

Basic knowledge of energy systems (power plant, heating plant, Renewable Energy Sources systems).

Syllabus of lectures:

1) Basic economic principles (time value of money, updates, depreciation, cash flow calculation)

2) Breakdown of profit and production costs in the energy sector

3) Technical and economic effectiveness of design options

4) Criteria of technical and economic efficiency (NPV, IRR, return) and their application in the evaluation of projects

5) Selection of the optimal solution, sensitivity and risk analysis

6) Basic questions of designing energy resources (localization, the optimal amount of power)

7) Parameter optimization of conventional and nuclear power plants

8) Externalities of Energy sources
