- Synopsis:

The subject is focused on the practical designing of basic concrete structural elements, relations of the design and behaviour of structural members, reinforcing and construction technology and execution. The principles of structural design are presented with an emphasis on simplified and empirical methods. The subject also includes designing of masonry structures, an introduction to the design of bridges and engineering structures, and the basic principles of prestressed concrete elements design.

Assessment - handing in tasks and meeting the deadline and the prescribed extent of works. Exam - written test and oral exam.

Multi-storey buildings.
Frame structures.

Basement and retaining walls.
Design of masonry structures, stiffening and reinforcing of masonry.
Serviceability limit states.
Prestressed concrete.
Fibre reinforced concretes, UHPC
Introduction to bridge and civil engineering design.
Models and methods for concrete structures design; preliminary design of structures.
- Syllabus of tutorials:

Task 1: Two-way slab supported along edges – preliminary design; bending moments, reinforcement design and reinforcement drawings; beam – load, structural model + load cases
Task 2: Flat slab
Task 3: Staircase – design of the geometry, supporting and dimensions of the slab staircase, flight/landing connection detail, structural analysis, reinforcement
Task 4: Pad footing – variant design of plain concrete footing and reinforced concrete footing
Task 5: Masonry design: design of lintels, perimeter wall analysis, basement wall analysis using a simplified method.
Task 6: Structural drawing
Task 7: SLS –calculation of deflection in variants.
