Synopsis:

This course is dealt with the basic calculations of heat transfer in heat exchangers used in power and heating plants. It also deals with boilers (types, functions and so on), determination of their efficiency and heat losses, including basic stoichiometric calculations of the combustion process.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

- Heat exchangers in power engineering (functions, types, requirements, operating conditions of heat exchangers)

- heat exchanger design (types of thermal calculations, process design and design of heat exchangers, temperature curves in the heat exchanger)

- Heat transfer calculations (heat transfer mechanisms, heat transfer coefficients, determination of heat exchanger surface/area, hydraulic and aerodynamic calculations)

- Combustion process and Boilers (energy, fossil fuels and their properties, biomass, fuel composition, low and higher heating values, diversity of fuels (liquid, gaseous, solid), the conversion of fuels)

- Fuel combustion (burning, burning models of solid and liquid fuels, stoichiometric calculations, determination of air and flue gas flow)

- Real combustion models

- Combustion quality (control and combustion control method, determination of the excess air coefficient)

- Efficiency of boilers and heat losses (differences in the combustion of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels)

- Boilers (types, utilization)

- Boiler, its function and integration in heating plants

- Steam boiler, its function and integration in condensing power plants and waste to energy
