Synopsis:

The subject is dealing with chemistry of building binder on basis of silicates and related matters. Both chemistry and technology of these matters is discussed.

Requirements:

No prerequisities

Syllabus of lectures:

Silica - structure and properties.

Calcium hydroxide and its properties.

Main phases of portland clinker, hydration and setting of portland cement.

Hydrthermal setting.

Hydration heat of cement.

Structure and properties of fresh and hydrated cement mortar.

Physico-chemical and mechanical properties of portland cement.

Mixed cements, pozzolana, slag, microsilica.

Chemistry of special cements.

Aluminate cements.

Admixtures to silicate cements.

Cement binder - aggregates interface.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

The goal of study is understanding to behaviour and properties of inorganic bunders. Student is able to evalate suitability of binder for given application.
