Programming of metal cutting on CNC machines

Synopsis:

Processing mock-up for casting, let us say mock-up of die tool models to the form of NC programme for CNC controlled milling machine. Usage of CAM system. Optimalization of tool paths with reference to cycle time and achieved quality of finished machined surface.

Requirements:

Manufacturing methods knowledge.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to 3D machining.

2. 3D machining procedures.

3. Problems of importing models. Editing models. Definition of the machining tool and cutting conditions for the tool.

4. Boundaries and shapes. Their meaning and use.

5. Working planes. Choice of working levels and their importance. 4D machining.

6. The right choice of technology.

7. Choice of technological conditions.

8. Simulation and verification.

9. Creating outputs in CAM.

10. Postprocessing and postprocessors.

11. NC code and its modifications, verification of NC code.

12. CAM and its involvement in PLM.

13. Development trends of machine programming.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Introduction.

3. Completing the strategy.

4. Model import and its modification. Definition of cutting tools and entering their cutting conditions.

5. Finishing using borders and shapes.

6. Procedures for 4D machining. Roughing, finishing.

7. Work on a semester assignment.

10. Work on a semester task.

11. Work on a semester task.

12. Work on a semester task.

13. Assessment.

Study Objective:

The goal of the course is to introduce to the students the advanced method of CNC machines programming.
