Synopsis:

Basic principles of physical chemistry in the field assuming real behavior especially that are demonstrated on technical applications. Volumetric properties of fluids. Thermodynamic properties of fluids. Phase equilibria. Solution Thermodynamics. Thermochemistry. Chemical reaction equilibrium.

Requirements:

Calculation of examples.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction. Concentration.

2. PVT behaviour of fluids: real gases, cubic equations of state.

3. PVT behaviour of fluids: generalised correlations for gases and liquids.

4. Basic principles of thermodynamics (the first and second law of thermodynamics).

5. Chemical thermodynamics.

6. Thermodynamic properties of fluids.

7. Fugacity and fugacity coefficient.

8. Solution thermodynamics.

9. Phase equilibria of one-component systems

10. Phase equilibria of multi-component systems.

11. Vapor - liquid equilibrium.

12. Systems with chemical reaction: Mass balances.

13. Systems with chemical reaction: Thermochemistry. Energy balances.

14. Systems with chemical reaction: Chemical reaction equilibrium.

1. Concentration

2. PVT behaviour of pure fluids: cubic equations of state.

3. PVT behaviour of pure fluids: generalised correlations.

4. PVT behaviour of fluids: fluid mixtures.

5. Thermodynamic properties of fluids: residual properties.

6. Thermodynamic properties of fluids: application (isobaric heating, adiabatic expansion, Joule-Thompson effect).

7. Fugacity and fugacity coefficient.

8. Solution thermodynamics.

9. Phase equilibria of one-component systems (vapor pressure, vaporization enthalpy)

10. Vapor - liquid equilibrium: ideal behaviour.

11. Vapor - liquid equilibrium: real behaviour.

12. Systems with chemical reaction: Mass balances.

13. Systems with chemical reaction: Thermochemistry. Energy balances.

14. Systems with chemical reaction: Chemical reaction equilibrium.
