Synopsis:

Study the subject of toxicology as a multidisciplinary science that focuses on examining the negative impact of chemicals on living organisms. Students will learn the most important chemicals that can cause poisoning organism, the principles of aid measures and specific symptomatic. This course will be relationship between the chemical and its toxicity, toxicokinetics, toxic interactions with the organism and clinical manifestations of intoxication. In the special part the emphasis is on poisons that lead to frequent the most dangerous poisons and poisoning (carbon monoxide, ethanol, drugs, pharmaceuticals, inorganic plant poisons and toxins).

Requirements:

Terms of graded credit: Development essay on an assigned topic to a minimum 5 pages and pass a written test with answers elected during the credit period. Thematic areas correspond to graded credit odpřednášeným topics of lectures. The test contains a total of 30 test questions: score (graded credit): 30 to 29 correct answers = 1 (A) 28 to 27 correct answers = 1.5 (B) 26 to 24 correct answers = 2 (C) 23 - 21 correct answers = 2.5 (D) 20 to 17 correct answers = 3 (E) 16 and less correct answers = 4 (F).

Syllabus of lectures:

First Definition of toxicology, chemical types, types of exposure, selective toxicity, the relationship of dose - response, synergism, antagonism, agomismus, threshold dose.

Second Routes of entry of toxic substances into the body of toxic substances, toxic substances, metabolism, excretion of toxic substances, the types of responses to toxic substances.

Third Basic procedures for intoxication, detoxification, nonspecific and specific therapy, elimination method.

4th Mechanisms of action of toxic chemicals.

5th Clinical manifestations of intoxication.

6th Toxicologically significant synthetic poisons.

7th Toxicologically significant natural poisons (toxins).

8th The most common drug intoxication.

9th Addictive substances, principles of urgent help

Study Objective:

The goal is to acquire basic knowledge of students in providing emergency assistance in life-threatening intoxication caused by drugs, chemicals, industrial or commercial origin or chemical accident.

In another part of the course students are introduced to the most important chemical substances that can cause poisoning organism, with principles to help premedical symptomatic and specific.

Specific issues are the terrorist misuse of chemical substances, principles of emergency care, basic principles of chemical protection in the prophylaxis, decontamination and treatment.
