Synopsis:

Chemical bonding in solids; crystal structures and their description; crystal symetry; origin of various kinds of X-radiation; photo- and nonphoto-detections of X-rays; Bragg?s law for the difraction; Debye-Scherrer methods; use of Hull-Davey?s nomograms; lattice parameters; methods for qualitative and quantitative determination of crystalline solids; rtg-methods used for determination of some physico-chemical properties; rotating-crystal method; principles for electron- and neutron- diffraction methods.

Requirements:

Fundamentals of physics and physical chemistry

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Various kinds of bonds in solids.

2.Lattices and unit cells.

3.Crystal systems and Miller Indices.

4.Origin of X-rays and their detection.

5.Bragg`s law.

6.Debye - Scherrer method.

7.Diffraction pattern assignments.

8.Determination of lattice parameters.

9.Qualitative and quantitative analysis.

10.Determination of some physico-chemical properties.

11.Rotating-crystal method.

12.Electron and neutron diffraction.
