Synopsis:

The course of Concrete Bridges is focused on design and construction of this type of bridge structures. Lectures are devoted to spatial arrangement and equipment of road and railway bridges, bridge substructure, effects and realization of prestressing, types of concrete bridge structures and technologies of their construction. During seminars, design of a two-span continuous cast-in-situ single-track railway bridge is carried out.

2)Spatial arrangement and equipment of road and railway bridges.

3)Substructure of bridges.

4)Actions on bridges. Design of concrete bridges according to Eurocodes. Load-bearing capacity.

5)Prestressing – effects on structures, principles of design, realization.

6)Slab structures.

7)Beam and frame structures.

8)Arch and vaulted structures.

9)Cable-stayed and suspension structures. Stress-ribbon structures.

10)Cast-in-situ structures – built on scaffolding, built by rotation.

11)Incremental launching.

12)Segmental structures – cast-in-situ and precast.

13)Structures made of precast girders. Heavy prefabrication.

Seminars:

Design of a two-span continuous cast-in-situ single-track railway bridge.

1)Drawings - longitudinal section, cross sections at span and at supports.

2)Properties of cross sections.

3)Materials.

4)Permanent loads, influence lines.

5)Variable loads. Calculation of internal forces.

6)Combinations of actions.

7)Preliminary design of prestressing reinforcement.

8)Tendon lay-out.

9)Detailed calculations of the effects of prestressing.

10)Verification of SLS.

11)Verification of ULS.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Structural systems - slab, beam, frame, arch, cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Cast-in situ and incrementally launched structures, structures bulit by free cantilever method (both cast-in-situ and precast). Preliminary design of a prestressed concrete bridge structure.
