Laser light and its use in manufacturing. Construction and structure of laser equipment. Types of lasers, gas, solid state, diode lasers etc., characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of lasers. Interaction of laser beam with material.

- Industrial lasers-types, active media, generated laser beam wavelength, characteristics.
- Modern lasers-fiber, disc, diode lasers
- Interaction of laser beam with material-absorptivity, reflectivity, creation of plasma
- Use of lasers in the industry-application, modes of operation
- Description of laser welding, cutting, engraving, marking etc.
- Safety issues and regulation of laser operation.
