Synopsis:

Fundamentals of thermal cycle calculation. PC - based software application for thermal cycle design of power plants. Design and off - design analyses. Simulation of operating modes of existing power stations at various loads . Prediction of the effects of different changes in the thermal cycle on cycle efficiency. Calculation of condensing plants, cogeneration plants and combined gas and steam cycles.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction. Course objectives and structure. Principles of thermodynamic cycles in general.

2. Fundamentals of thermal cycle calculation. Thermal efficiencies and the contribution of the components.

3. PC - based software application for thermal cycle design of power plants.

4. Components of thermal cycles - performance, calculation methods, variable setup, input data.

5. Steady state design and off - design analyses of thermal power systems.

6. Macros, tables and output data.

7. CycleLink.

8. Simulation of operating modes of existing power stations at various loads.

9. Prediction of the effects of different changes in the thermal cycle on cycle efficiency.

10. Calculation of condensing plants, cogeneration plants and combined gas and steam cycles. Comparisons of performance
