Synopsis:

Individual groups of new engineering structural materials are characterized in the course „Advanced Materials“. Besides the development and physical fundamentals of these materials, new most frequently used types of materials are presented with their basic characteristics and mechanical properties. Potential technological processing, applicability in designing and systems of their designation are presented.

Requirements:

At least 90% presence at training courses, working out at least 10 reports from training courses

1.Development, production and market of new materials

2.New methods of iron and steel metallurgy

3.Modern hot and cold rolled steels

4.Ultra-high strength and high-alloy steels, superalloys

5.Light metals and their alloys

6.Materials produced by powder metallurgy

7.Amorphous, nano and microcrystalline materials

8.Ceramic marterials

9.Polymeric materials

10.Composites

11.Biomaterials, superconductive and superplastic materials, shape-memory effect materials

12.Surface engineering

13.Databeses of designation systems and equivalents of materials

Syllabus of tutorials:

Calculation of theoretical strength of differently crystallizing materials, growth of properties of new metallurgical semiproducts, growth of crash resistance of sheets for automotive industry, microstructures of new stainless steels, precipitation hardening, properties of PM materials, new amorphous metallic alloys, local evaluation of brittleness of ceramics, mechanical properties of plastics, mechanics of composite systems, properties of special types of new materials, determination of mechanical properties of surface layers, excursion
