Synopsis:

The course represents a link-up between the theoretical mechanics of rigid bodies and engineering disciplines dealing with stress and strain analysis of real structure parts (elasticity, plasticity, fracture mechanics, etc.). Principles of statics, kinematics, and dynamics and their application.

Requirements:

Physics - Mechanics.

Mathematical analysis.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Statics.

1.1 Elementary principles.

1.2 Force equilibrium for bodies with various supports.

1.3 Forces and moments transmitted by slender members.

1.4 Truss girders.

1.5 Statics with friction and/or rolling resistance.

2. Kinematics.

2.1 Kinematics of mass point - elementary principles.

2.2 Kinematics of solid bodies - types of motion and their description.

2.3 Simultaneous motions.

2.4 Kinematics of mechanisms - methods of solution.

3. Dynamics.

3.1 Dynamics of mass particle and particle systems - elementary principles.

3.2 Dynamics of solid bodies, principle of virtual works.

3.3 Moments of inertia and their calculation.

3.4 Kinetic energy of moving bodies.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Calculation of reactions and forces and moments transmitted by slender members. Calculation of axial forces in truss girders. Solution of simple kinematic and dynamic problems. Calculation of moments of inertia for bodies with various geometry.

Study Objective:

Knowledge: To obtain the basic theoretical knowledges about statics, kinematics and dynamics with respect to engineering application.

Skills: To be able to calculate the reactions in supports of various kinds, forces and moments transmitted by slender members and axial forces in truss girders. To be able to solve simple problems dealing with kinematics and dynamics of bodies and mechanical systems.
