Why Linux? Basic principles of Linux operation (and generally UNIX based system). Explanation of terms e.g. kernel, process, user. Problems of system start-up (starting scripts) and files and folders system dislocation. Various distributions. Bash - Bourn Again Shell. Input and output redirection. Pipe. Shell variables. Basic Linux´s commands (description of the most important Shell commands). Linux filesystem ext2. File types. Rights, owner, group. Organization of files on a disc. Filesystems mounting in Linux. Swapping. X server. Linux network services. Remote access to a system. Remote application running. Telnet, rsh, rlogin a ssh. Linux configuration. Configuration files in /etc. XServer. Localization principles. Emulators of DOS, VMWare, Wine, etc. X applications and programmes. Security in Linux. security and sendmail, NFS, NIS, Imapd. Increasing of Linux´s power.
