Synopsis:

Aim of the lectures is to explain to students the principals of microwave circuits, both passive and active. Further basic applications of microwave technique and technology used in industry, medicine, communications and research are discussed. In details, microwave applications such as heating and drying in industry, microwave special features for communication and navigation (both terrestrial and satellite), for basic scientific research (radioastronomy and radiometry), for microwave sensors (industry, transport) and for medical applications are described.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Passive microwave circuits.

2. Microwave resonant circuits.

3. Microwave nonreciprocal circuits (isolators, circulators, modulators).

4. Nonlinear microwave circuits.

5. Parametric circuits.

6. Interactions of EM field and matter.

7. Applications of microwave technique in industry, food industry and pharmacology - heating and drying.

8. Microwave sensors - applications in industry and transport.

9. Microwave principals and circuits for communication and navigation systems.

10. Biological effects of electromagnetic field, safety limits.

11. Medical applications of microwaves, cancer treatment.

12. Applicators for local, intracavitary and regional treatment.

13. Applications of microwaves in scientific research.

14. Modern microwave technologies.
