Supervisor:
Department of Electrotechnology
Synopsis:

The course is focused on materials for electrical engineering and technology of their processing in electrical products with emphasis on the area of power electrotechnics. Materials for conductors, superconductors, dielectrics, insulators, semiconductors and magnetic materials will be presented including their properties. Influence of pureness, structure and processing of materials on their properties and basic technologies, which are used for their transformation in typical products for electrical engineering. Aging of materials and influence of aging on properties of materials is also presented.

Requirements:

A student has to obtain a credit before an examination

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Conductive and superconductive properties and their relationship with technology. Conductors, superconductors

2.Dielectric properties of materials and their relationship with technology. Dielectric materials and their types

3.Magnetic properties of materials and their relationship with technology. Magnetic materials and their types

4.Semiconductive properties of materials and their relationship with technology. Basic types of semiconductors

5.Basic technologies for manufacturing of conductors, conductive foils and cables

6.Solders for electrical engineering, alloy Sn-Pb, lead free solders Electrically conductive adhesives

14.Aging of materials for electrical engineering and its relationship with changes of their properties

Syllabus of tutorials:

Training will be realized in labs, the time of one training will be 2 hours. Therefore the labs will be organized in 7 weeks.Students will be awarded by a credit in last week of the semester.

1.Basic information about the measurements, demonstrations of the measurements

2.Measurement of anisotropy of Si sheet

3.Properties of semiconductive Si

4.Mechanical properties of solids

5.Dielectric properties of solids

6.Resistivity of insulators

7.Electrical strength of insulating foils

Study Objective:

The aim is to identify the structure and properties of basic materials used in electrical power and to become familiar with the measurement of these properties. Acquired knowledge is essential for the subsequent courses of technological nature.
