Synopsis:

Modern information and estimation theory application to communication systems. Main blocks of systems. Coding for effective and reliable information transmission.

1. Communication system blocks, communication layers model

2. Transmitter and receiver, basic blocks and their properties

3. Signal propag., direction antennas, signal to noise ratio on the demodulator input

4. Estimation theory basis, quality criteria

5. Estimation theory application on analogue modulations

6. Estimation theory applications od digital modulations

7. Information theory, communication channel capacity

8. Information theory application for communications system limits determination

9. Source coding, redundancy

10. Channel coding and FEC

11. FEC realisation block and convolution codes

12. Error probability in channel coding

13. Spread spectrum transmission, system gain

14. Spread spectrum for digital communication systems

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Design of algorithm and calculation of equal loudness curves

2. Design of digital filters for psychoacoustic optimisation of signal

3. Restoration of damaged signals in time and frequency domains

4. Measurement of discretization influence on sound signal frequency spectrum

5. Measurement of S/N ratio of DSP on a digital delay line

6. Digital audio signal processing using a DSP card

7. Influence of a digital audio signal processing on auditory perception

8. Modelling of discretization and quantization of audio signals, quantization noise

9. Oversampling of audio signals, their statistic and frequency analyses

10. Design of a digital measuring signal generator for studio equipment

11. Audio signal processing using professional PC sound card

12. Measurement of a PC SOUND gener., testing of loudspeakers using a test CD

13. Measurement of acoustic and electroacoustic systems using MLS signal

14. Measurement, pre-processing and analysis of music signals
