The course enables students to improve their information literacy, i.e. capability and skills to search information in different kinds of resources and formats, to evaluate information relevancy, to obtain full-texts and to use information in accordance with legal and ethical rules.

Proving of competency to search information effectively in different information resources on specific topics, to cite used literature and documents and to work with the tool RefWorks is required. Test will be done after every theme of the outline.

1. Electronic information resources at the CTU, search preparation and searching methods, search in electronic information databases, relevancy of searching results.

2. Downloading of full-texts from databases and using of library document delivery services (EDD, ILL).

3. Technical standards, standardization process, national institutions for standardization and online catalogues of standards.

4. Intellectual property protection and copyright, kinds of legal protection of intellectual property, classification systems, databases of patents and trademarks.

5. How to write subject publication, author's ethics, plagiarism, citations and the RefWorks tool.

Development and support of student?s information literacy and assuming of principles of ethical and legal information use is the mail goal of the course.
