Synopsis:

Kinds of thin-walled structures, idealization, geometry and loading. St.Venant´s principle. Theory and relations for thin shells, boundary conditions, stress and deformation response to loading. Cylindrical, conical, spherical and anuloid form of shell, their joints. Thermal stresses, stability. Practical application, storage tanks, pressure vessels, pipe lines, elbow, T branch. Structural thin shells, single-cell and multi-cell shells. Theory of thin plates subjected to in-plane and perpendicular loading. Buckling, instability of stiffened panels. Flexural-torsional buckling in thin-walled columns. Bending, shear and torsion of opened and closed thin-walled beams, centre of shear, theory of deplanation. Structural constraint. Application for aircraft and transportation structures. Matrix methods of structural analysis, FEM.
