Department of Mechanics, Biomechanics and Mechatronics
Synopsis:

Propagation of acoustic waves, longitudinal and transversal bulk wave, propagation of waves in anisotropic media, surface waves, guided waves. Introduction to the signal processing, digitizing and signal quantification, stability and causality, Fourier transform, pulsed echo of the system, frequency representation of signals. Acoustic emissions as passive ultrasound technique, source localization, force representation of acoustic source, modal acoustic emission, application of AE on thin walled constructs. Ultrasound techniques, its applications to defectoscopy (NDT), scanning techniques, acoustic microscopy. Determination of material properties, elastic coefficients evaluation from experimentally obtained velocities of acoustic waves propagation, coherence between material structure and attenuation, frequently dependent attenuation and material dispersion. Non-contact techniques, laser excited ultrasound and detection of acoustic wave by the laser interferometry (laser ultrasound), air coupled ultrasound. Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy, measurement of elastic properties, evaluation of the attenuation, defectoscopy.
