- Synopsis:
-
Practical use of Fe-C equilibrium diagram, influence of alloying and accompanying elements, excursion to a selected production plant. Application of equilibrium diagrams to processing of ferrous alloys, practical application of heat treatment, use of ITD (Isothermal Transformation Diagram) and ATD (Anisotropic Transformation Diagram). Excursion to a hardening shop, combined chemical and heat treatment. Comparison of mechanical properties and consequential use of various types of materials for particular applications. Analysis of structure and mechanical properties of non-ferrous metals, plastics, composites and structural ceramics. Excursion topically oriented to modern testing methods using state of the art laboratory equipment.
