Energy sources, conversion and utilisation. Overview of global and CZ energy resources and demands. Different types of fossil fuel and the nature of the combustion process. Emissions. Basic thermodynamic cycles, thermal efficiency. Principles of thermal energy conversion in boilers, steam turbines, internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Fission and fusion. Nuclear reactor. Renewable energies: solar energy, utilization of wind, geothermal energy, biomass, ocean energy (tidal energy, temperature-gradient,?). Direct conversion of energy in various forms to electrical energy.
